Building blocks aren’t only a lot of fun for a 2 year old but they help build motor skills as well as feed into the child’s imagination as well.
There are several different kinds of building blocks that you can choose for your toddler. The most important thing to remember when choosing any type of blocks or construction pieces for your 2 year old (or even 3-4 year olds) is to choose products that are age appropriate. You definitely would not want to buy a 2 year old a set of regular Lego’s as they would pose as a chocking hazard since most 2 years still tend to stick things in their mouths.
All of my kids loved playing with blocks when they were a toddler and definitely had their favorites. Although you could buy any building block set geared towards 2 year olds, here are my picks for the best building blocks for a 2 year old.
Mega Bloks First Builders
Mega Bloks First Builders are made especially for kids ages 1-5 years old. They are bigger blocks but still small enough for little hands to use and build with.
You can get them in a variety of different colors as well as shapes and sizes. If you are looking for slightly larger blocks that are stackable, I would recommend that you check out the Melissa & Doug Jumbo Cardboard Block Set.
These are jumbo building blocks that are super fun to stack and build with for toddlers. They are made of cardboard, but it is a sturdy cardboard that is tough and will stand up to little kids. The blocks can even support up to 150 pounds so you don’t have to worry about your toddler crushing them.
This set includes 40 blocks in 3 different sizes and 3 different colors. The blocks are lightweight and easy to lift. Toddlers love making huge stacking towers and this can help teach them just how to stack and manipulate items to help prepare them in the future for smaller blocks.
